MOV'IN CANNES

An international dance film competition

Cannes, city of the 7th Art and Dance, presents a new highlight in its programming with “MOV’IN Cannes”, a competition organised as part of the Cannes – Côte d’Azur France Dance Festival, which will be held from 23 November to 10 December 2023. This event is part of the Cannes On Air and 100% EAC (Artistic and Cultural Education) programmes launched in 2014 by David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes.

 

Didier Deschamps, for his first edition as Artistic Director of the Dance Festival, joins forces with Éric Oberdorff, choreographer and director, for the artistic direction of this original event dedicated to dance films. The competition will take place over one year, with applications opening on Thursday 1 December 2022. The screening of the selected films and the announcement of the prize winners will take place on Thursday 30 November 2023 at the Cineum in Cannes.

A selection of dance films will be screened at the Cineum in Cannes on Thursday 30 November 2023 in front of festival-goers and a jury made up of professionals from the world of dance and cinema. 

It will provide an opportunity to take stock of current events and the production of dance images.

There are two ways to participate in the competition:

  • via the international dance film festival partners: Suzanne Dellal Center – Tel Aviv, Cinedance – Montreal, Inshadow Festival – Lisbon, Centre National de la Danse – Paris, Physical Cinema Festival – Reykjavik… Each partner will send its “favourite” film which will be included in the selection;
  • via a call for participation on www.festivaldedanse-cannes.com open from 1 December 2022 to April 15 2023.

The criteria to be respected for the making of the film :

  • use dance and movement in the subject matter or as a narrative or abstract, documentary or imaginary device
  • be less than 10 minutes long
  • open to all French or international productions and co-productions

  • 2022 :

Wednesday 23 November: master class with choreographer and director Eman Hussein

Thursday 1st December: opening of the call for dance films

  • 2023 :

January to May: student panel screening period

July: announcement of the selection of the 20 dance films

Thursday 30 November 2023: screening of the selected films at the Cineum in the presence of the jury and festival-goers and announcement of the winners.

DANCE EUROPE! in #CANNES

By joining the DANCE EUROPE operation! the Palais des Festivals and the Cannes – Côte d’Azur France Dance Festival brought together more than 200 people for this great European participatory project.Launched by the Ministry of Culture, on the occasion of the French presidency of the Council of the European Union, the operation aimed to invite volunteers to dance on a 9-minute choreography designed by Angelin Preljocaj and on a music by Jeanne Added. The initiative was followed in Cannes by amateur dancers, professionals, but also children and passers-by all inspired by the voice and choreography of Angelin Preljocaj and sensitized to the invitation to gather around a participatory and cultural project.

Didier Deschamps succeeds Brigitte Lefèvre from 2023

The Mairie de Cannes and the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès are pleased to announce the appointment of Didier Deschamps, director of Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse, as artistic director of the Festival de Danse de Cannes from the 2023 edition. He will succeed Brigitte Lefèvre, artistic director of the biennial since 2015 and who will present her last program from November 27 to December 12, 2021, during the 23rd edition of the Festival. The Dance Festival confirms its choice to entrust a carte blanche to very great personalities of the world of dance.
