The
History of the festival
Created in 1985 by the City of Cannes, the Dance Festival is one of the most famous international festivals. The creation of this Festival is part of a historic relationship between the City of Cannes and the world of dance, thanks in particular to the dynamic created by the opening of the Rosella Hightower International Dance Center in 1961. Since 1993, to the rhythm of a biennial, the event has found its identity, relying on numerous creations presenting new talents from the choreographic scene and the work of major international companies.
