Description
Author and performer of this work, Silvia Gribaudi creates with the audience an ephemeral, supportive, and warm community, engaging directly with her body and dance.
Since her first solo A corpo libero, the Italian choreographer has consistently questioned society’s gaze on physical appearance, especially bodies like hers that defy traditional beauty standards. Now in her fifties, she places herself under the protective inspiration of iconic female figures — Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, and Pina Bausch — who also challenged conventions.
Throughout the performance, she interacts actively with the audience, turning them into a “suspended chorus” without script or score. Moving between stage and audience, she alternates moments of pure dance, poses for selfies with volunteers, playfully engages with her own body, and sings — inviting the audience to sing along — an Ave Maria. Each performance becomes a unique experience, combining humor, gestures, and verbal interactions in French. Suspended Chorus challenges aesthetic norms, expected performance conventions, and opens an empathetic, collective creative space — a metaphor for building another world.
