Compagnie par Terre - Anne Nguyen - "Matière(s) Première(s)"

Since her first stays in the Democratic Republic of Congo and collaborations with choreographer Faustin Linekula, Anne Nguyen has maintained a close connection with Africa. In Matière(s) Première(s), created in 2023, she explores urban dances and music born in African streets. Styles such as Côte d’Ivoire’s coupé-décalé, Congo’s ndombolo, and Cameroon’s mbolé, now danced worldwide, draw on local traditions while reflecting modern cultural exchanges. These dances assert cultural identity and resist Western domination. The “raw materials” referenced in the title extend beyond gestural language, encompassing the colonial exploitation of natural resources and harsh economic forces imposed on these countries. In response to these violences, the six performers deliver an explosive fusion of styles and techniques. Their interwoven movements create a striking initiatory journey through realities and imagination alike.
