A true icon of contemporary dance, Louise Lecavalier seeks through this solo to continue her research based on virtuosity, surpassing oneself and taking risks ... A quest for the absolute in the form of a breath-taking one-woman-show
A huge figure in contemporary dance and the nearly twenty-year muse of the Canadian company La La La Human Steps and its choreographer Edouard Lock, Louise Lacavalier has left her mark on the world through the energy of her interpretation and her duets with David Bowie , with whom she has shared the stage. In Stations, the choreographer continues her dizzying exploration of dance across four seasons and as many states of the body: fluidity, control, meditation and obsession

An undeniable success for the final edition of Brigitte Lefèvre
The spotlight is on the 23rd edition of the Cannes – Côte d’Azur France Dance Festival, a true collective success. In addition to the joy of seeing live performances, the public came in large numbers to support the artists. Brigitte Lefèvre, artistic director, wanted to honour iconic women choreographers and dancers, the pioneers, for its 4th and last edition. The programme, which was always demanding, invited 28 companies with 15 creations, including 4 world premieres, 2 French premieres and 1 European premiere. A festival that kept all its promises by offering 27 performances and was sold out despite the cancellation of 2 shows. 13,000 festival-goers were invited for a fortnight to discover all the repertoires. The event took over the whole territory thanks to the mobilisation, alongside the Palais des Festivals of Cannes, of 8 partner cultural structures: Anthéa, Antibes – Forum Jacques Prévert, Carros – Scène 55, Mougins – Théâtre de Grasse – Théâtres en Dracénie, Draguignan – Théâtre intercommunal Le Forum, Fréjus – Théâtre La Licorne Cannes – Théâtre National de Nice The first federative cultural project, initiated in 2019, is a demonstration of coordination, co-construction and exemplary mobilisation of teams and audiences.

Court-métrage A Dancer’s World
1957, États-Unis, 31 min
de Peter Glushanok avec Martha Graham.
As she prepares to take on the role of Jocasta, Martha Graham introduces us to her company, talks about the life, art and technique of the dancer.
“A Dancer’s World is a magnificent film because it shows dancing where you don’t expect it. The montage alternates between the dressing room, where we see Martha Graham putting on makeup before entering the stage to perform Night Journey while meditating on the formation of the dancer, and dance sequences of the company.
Martha Graham by styling her hair, dressing herself, evokes the world of dance: how you become a character, the need for discipline in the studio, the time it takes – years of exercise – to achieve simplicity, spontaneity, at the instant of the theatrical act. ” Bernard Rémy

de Philippe Béziat
This is a first for 30 hip-hop, krump, break, voguing dancers … A first for the director Clément Cogitore and for the choreographer Bintou Dembélé. And a first for the Paris Opera. By creating a dialogue between urban dance and lyrical song, they reinvent together Jean-Philippe Rameau’s baroque masterpiece, Les Indes Galantes. From rehearsals to public performances, it is a human adventure and a meeting with political issues that we follow: can a new generation of artists take the Bastille today ?

This documentary is the chronicle of a unique creative process: the great choreographer gives us unprecedented access to her work, her current projects and her personal archives. Carefully selected archive footage spanning the past forty years reveals the influence her life and deep connection to the subconscious have had on the complex and imaginative pieces she has created. Comprising exclusive interviews, intimate rehearsal sequences and dazzling dance sequences, the film is the first critical perspective on the brilliant career of a multifaceted woman.

The
History of the festival
Created in 1985 by the City of Cannes, the Dance Festival is one of the most famous international festivals. The creation of this Festival is part of a historic relationship between the City of Cannes and the world of dance, thanks in particular to the dynamic created by the opening of the Rosella Hightower International Dance Center in 1961. Since 1993, to the rhythm of a biennial, the event has found its identity, relying on numerous creations presenting new talents from the choreographic scene and the work of major international companies.
